At Zerion, we want to create a place where strong people can thrive, regardless of their background. I believe that a resume does not truly reflect who you are and a 30-minute interview cannot possibly judge how well you will perform. Google has famously said that your GPA, place of graduation, and IQ’s are not direct indicators of work performance.
To this end, Zerion Software has created an activity-based recruiting process to get to know and learn more about potential hires. The idea behind the activity is to find the strongest candidates who can do the job the best, and are the most eager to get the position. In addition, we want to give candidates who do not have the proper background on paper an equal opportunity for the position. We call this the ‘second-chance’ opportunity. Didn’t major in Computer Science but really want to get into Software development? Just complete the tasks and if you are a good fit to our culture, you too can get the job. (Our Director of Product Development did not have a Computer Science Degree.)
Here is our process in a nutshell:
All candidates will be given 1 or 2 activities designed by the hiring manager. These are job-related tasks and may be done at your own pace.
Depending on the nature of the position a candidate is applying for, the final step of our process may involve a half-day or full-day of project consulting. (You will be compensated for your time.)
Once activity results are in, qualified candidates will be invited to come into our office for an in-person activity. The in-person activity varies from participating in a team meeting to attending a company outing event to sitting with our support team. This is our way of learning more about candidates and for candidates to see if they like and fit with the Zerion Software company culture.
