For many healthcare teams, disaster preparedness is a vital part of operations. Whether or not a community is directly involved, healthcare facility teams must be able to respond to a disaster, know what is expected of them, and what is expected from the community. This article, published by the Health Information Management Systems Society, reviews the necessary steps to successfully respond to a disaster. In addition to a response plan, the appropriate systems must also be in order to make the response more thorough.

Flexible and Dynamic Forms

A healthcare facility must understand the plans and capabilities of local emergency response teams and facilities. Healthcare teams use Zerion to keep an inventory of human and physical community resources along with any additional documents or agreements. By building dynamic forms, teams can keep all necessary information in a secure environment that can be accessed by authenticated users. Maintenance personnel can update information in the event they are required to move furniture or log additional working hours.

Remote Access to Forms

If a healthcare facility is working with their local community, multiple parties will need access to the same information which can be hard to organize. The Zerion client encourages open communication between every team member by providing access to the same information even if the team is physically separated. Once account managers give permission to users, the collected information can be accessed from any location.

Software Integration Capabilities

As information is gathered, data can be integrated backend reporting systems or electronic medical records. This will enable response team leaders to clean data with ease and visualize the information in a variety of ways.

Hardware Integration

In the event that response teams need to capture GPS information or sensory data or scan barcode information, Zerion easily integrates with devices like SXBlue, BadElf and Dual GPS devices for improving the GPS accuracy of your mobile devices and NODE for various types of sensory data, Socket Mobile for 1D and 2D barcode scanners.

When healthcare teams need to respond to a disaster, it is imperative that every team member is aware of and has access to the response plan. Data collection is an important part of understanding the progress that has been made and work that needs to be done. Pre-designed forms can support response teams with patient intake and discharge, patient records, facility concerns, and environmental factors.
