5 Reasons Why Seed Companies Love Zerion

Data Management | Project Monitoring | Agriculture

Legumes and tomatoes and beets, oh my! Between knowing what kind of soil to use and determining peak seasons, growing seeds is no laughing matter.

Many seed companies go into the fields to track each category using pen and paper which can lead to data errors and binders full of paper. For seed companies that use Zerion, field workers are able to efficiently catalog and document seed growth and viability for hundreds of seed trials each year. Zerion allows seed companies to track all aspects of seed growth as they are in the field. Here are five reasons why seed companies use Zerion to monitor seed trials (and you should too!)

1) Dynamic Data and Real-Time Reporting

Traditionally, seed trials are tracked using paper and pencil which results in data that cannot be used for advanced reporting or paper that needs to be keyed into an antiquated computer system. With Zerion, all data captured is immediately made available in a variety of formats including, lists, maps, graphs, and excel sheets, as well as data feeds like JSON, XML, and ATOM. See your data come to life by generating advanced reporting and providing your field teams with access to data immediately.

2) Advanced Form Building

Smart forms are an essential part of collection relevant data for seed trials. Using Zerion smart controls, seed companies create forms with skip logic, form validation, and calculations baked right into the forms. For example, users are able to select a field, select a variety and then have the list of active trials for their team to report on. Then based on a series of conditional responses the forms can grow based on the data collectors response. Data collectors will enter the trial number, variety, seed source and a series of calculations and measurements will be required based on the number of days to seed maturity. All the data collector needs to do is answer the question on the device and the forms do the rest of the work.

3) Offline Capabilities

Seed Companies work outside. It’s their business to be outside in the fields. While in the fields an internet connection is not always available. With Zerion, data collectors are able to capture data with or without an internet connection and sync their data once they get back to a connected environment at the office or even at the local coffee shop. Even the lookup tables and Smart Table Search functions work while users are completely offline. No connection? No problem!

4) Fast Forms

At the beginning of every season, field teams are able to build new forms to meet their data collection needs. The ability to build ad hoc forms quickly is a game changer for many of these groups. Forms are easily able to be built by users which results in streamlined data collection without having to wait for new applications to be built. For smaller farms, all data collection occurs on Zerion and the Zerion cloud is the database of record for all activities.

5) Barcode Scanning

A few of our Seed Companies have removed all manual data entry from their processes and trials. Users will use the device camera and use the Zerion built-in manatee widget to scan barcodes on each of the trial cards and have all known information about the trial populated on the device. Data collectors simply need to complete the form and they are done. This eliminates errors in the data entry, it speeds up their process and redefines how seed trials are performed.

Bonus: Pictures!

Who knew that taking a picture of a trial plant would make such a difference?! By using Zerion, take a daily picture of the trial plants along with all of the associated attributes. This will provide a more comprehensive report and allows the growers to come to conclusions using better information.
